Effective Pedagogy: Teacher candidates can create effective and meaningful lessons for all students based on required subject matter knowledge and curriculum goals.
I made a file of seed strategies in my Fine Arts class during the Fall of 2007. This artifact provides evidence of effective pedagogy (DM2) because it demonstrates my knowledge of strategies that will give students an opportunity to participate in activities that pertain to learning. The students will still be doing assignments based on subject matter and the curriculum, but it gives them a chance to think outside the box. For example, one seed strategy is called the nature collage. Students will collect natural items while on a walk to display or use in a collage. Students can collect twigs, leaves, stones, bark, feathers, etc. During the walk you can practice other skills such as hopping, jumping, or skipping. I think this artifact provides evidence that I can develop activities that help the students learn, based on effective pedagogy. For example, one seed strategy is called the nature collage. I created this Plant Lesson during my student teaching experience. This artifact provides evidence of effective pedagogy (DM2)because I created my lesson based on the required education standards found on the Utah Education Network(UEN) website. This lesson also provides evidence of my capability to create a well planned lesson that includes the following essential components: objectives, procedures, assessments and strategies for diverse learners. Also, this artifact demonstrates my ability to create meaningful activities for the students. For example, students were able to examine a lima bean with a magnifying glass and then label the parts of the seed. I feel as though this artifact proves that I can develop lesson plans that are affective and meaningful based upon the required subject matter.
